Restaurant Initiale

This was a truly superb meal at a Relais & Chateaux restaurant run by Madame Leclerc and her husband, Chef Yvan Lebrun. The cuisine is clearly at a two- to three-star Michelin Guide level – very imaginative, loaded with flavor, and brilliantly executed. I thought every dish was top-flight, but perhaps the concassé de pétoncle from the local islands and the petits pois with frais-porcelet and boudin noir were just out of this world. I was also blown away by the quality of the Quebec cheeses from local farmers.

The restaurant sits right at the foot of the old city of Quebec, just beneath the looming luxury hotel Château Fontenac. Service was superb, friendly, and the entire experience one that I treasure. This restaurant is the complete package – outstanding service as well as friendly, impressive food, and an intelligent wine list. I highly recommend it.
