Press

I love this restaurant, which represents an homage to some of the great French bistros in Paris, particularly the eater’s paradise of L’Ami Louis. Many of the well-known dishes from L’Ami Louis can be found at Press, but made from California raw materials. The quality of their seafood, shell fish, beef and chicken is superb as evidenced by the number of charity events I have done here over the years. At this casual dinner, my wife and I ate stunningly well, from the wonderful tartare Hamachi to the oysters on the half shell from Hog Island Oyster Farm, the beautiful steak tartare, and the sumptuous roast chicken for two prepared impeccably with juicy meat and crunchy skin. The L’Ami Louis-styled potato cake was not as good as those I have previously enjoyed at Press.

The wines included a magnificent 2009 Rudd Sauvignon Blanc, one of the finest Sauvignons from California, and a fully mature, St.-Julien-like 1990 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. This beautifully complex, elegant Cabernet was a wonderful accompaniment to the roast chicken.
