Le Dôme

This is always a pilgrimage as I have never found a better lobster salad or sole Meunière than Le Dôme’s. While great oysters can be found at a number of terrific restaurants in Paris and elsewhere, Le Dôme’s are as good as they get, even though the finest oysters were not yet in season when I dined there in early September. The lobster salad is pure perfection. The lobster is cooked perfectly, there is a wonderful mayonnaise made with parts of the lobster, and the salad ingredients are bursting with flavor. Then there is the sole Meunière. Take a fish caught the night before, sauté it perfectly in butter, and serve it hot, and the result is a dish of pure genius in its simplicity, delicious flavors, and perfect juxtaposition of butter, fish, and a touch of lemon. Moreover, the staff will filet it for you if you desire.

The 2007 Serge Dagueneau Pouilly-Fumé was an excellent fresh, lively white that was so good we ordered a second bottle. Additionally, it was a lot less expensive than the other wines on the list from the late Didier Dageneau who made such terrific dry white Loires.

Historically, Le Dôme is one of the great centers for the Bohemian movement in Paris, and it has always been a stylish brassière and magnet for fish and shellfish lovers. It is another venue offering terrific service and dazzlingly fresh seafood.
