Top 5 New Releases from Gallo

“In recent years, the E & J Gallo Winery empire has made a number of strategic acquisitions in Sonoma and Napa Valley, mainly aiming for the premium end of the wine market,” says editor-in-chief Lisa Perrotti-Brown in our latest Issue of The Wine Advocate, of the iconic and world’s largest winery.

Perrotti-Brown recently visited with Gina Gallo, granddaughter of Julio Gallo and next-generation senior director of winemaking at the eponymous vineyard, to taste through a range of new releases, “and hear some stories and visions behind the family’s labels.”

Here, the top five new releases from E & J Gallo, all rated 93+ points and higher.

“Full-bodied, firmly structured and densely packed, it fills the mouth with vibrant, multilayered black fruits and savory notions, finishing long and perfumed.”

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Zinfandel Blend Eight Years (a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Syrah) comes bounding out of the glass with notes of raspberry pie, blackberry preserves and fruitcake with touches of hoisin and Chinese five spice plus and waft of underbrush.”

“Full-bodied, rich, opulent and spicy in the mouth, it has a velvety texture and seamless freshness, finishing long with a lively pepper and herbs lift.”

“A barrel sample, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 1 opens with blueberries, plums and crushed black currants on the nose with cedar, earth and violets scents plus a waft of incense.”

“The medium to full-bodied mouth is firm with a solid frame of muscular fruit, finishing long and lively.”
