China Tang

I was looking forward to eating at this restaurant in the basement of London’s exquisite Dorchester Hotel, conceived by David Tang, who founded the China Club in Hong Kong, which I ate at a number of years ago and thought was spectacular. While this is a beautiful venue, I was disappointed in the quality of their Dim Sum, which did not measure up to that I have enjoyed at Mark’s Duck House in northern Virginia as well as elsewhere in America. The China Tang Dim Sum was good, but it just did not sing. The rosé Champagne was delicious, and the fully mature, classic 1985 Cheval Blanc was drinking beautifully. The wines made up for the good but uninspiring Dim Sum. Overall, I found this to be a vastly overrated restaurant, and I should have been wary when I saw very few people dining here on a Sunday.
