Top 9 Wines from End of July 2019 Issue

The End of July 2019 issue is alive and well, featuring nearly 600 new wine reviews across 10 reports with regions including Panzano, Burgundy, Japan, and Napa Valley, among others.

Two of the report were bestowed a perfect score of 100 points, including Thomas Rivers Brown’s Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon True Vineyard. “He is the deft hand behind a who’s-who list of cult labels, including Schrader, Outpost, Maybach, Seaver and his own Rivers-Marie brand (co-owned with Genevieve Marie Welsh),” says Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, in her latest report. “But perhaps what I most appreciate during our one-on-one tasting sessions is his down-to-earth nature and ability to keep it real.”

Here, the top nine wines from the latest issue, all rated 98 points and higher.

“This vintage shows amazing depth and poise, with a sheer sense of elegance that comes from the undisputed quality of fruit achieved in this balanced vintage.”

“Medium to full-bodied, solidly built and beautifully taut, it is packed with layered nuances and textured by superbly ripe, fine-grained tannins, finishing with great length with an invigorating lift.”

“The wine is dark, exuberant and profound, and the quality of the tannins is superb, fine and firm.”

“This is by some margin the finest bottle of Leflaive's 1990 Chevalier-Montrachet that I've encountered.”

“A decadent beauty right now, this is going to be even more mind-blowing in 15 to 20+ years, and it should go on for 40 or more.”

“Vigna del Sorbo shows its own precise identity that is fiercely faithful to Sangiovese, but that also pushes the boundaries to go beyond our highest expectations of the grape in terms of color, concentration, aromatic complexity and staying power.”

“The palate is opulently rich and full-bodied, yet it has bold freshness and exquisitely fine-grained tannins supporting layer upon layer of perfumed fruit, finishing very long.”

“The wine shows extreme Sangiovese elegance and purity, and while the wine is almost fragile in approach, it ultimately reveals more brawn, volume and staying-power than anticipated.”

“This should age fantastically!”
