With a line out the door at 7pm on a Friday night, just 15 days after their grand opening, it is safe to say that Handline Coastal California in Sebastopol has received a warm welcome from the locals...Handline brings tasty, fresh California cuisine to locals at an affordable price in a fun, friendly atmosphere—plus, they’ve got plenty of craft beer and local wine to wash it all down!
In honor of Robert Parker's Part One of his Northern California reports, I've compiled a list of 15 Zinfandels scoring 90 points or higher in Issue 227.
Situated south of the Russian River, the Laguna Ridge neighborhood is composed of soft rolling hills full of mostly Goldridge soils. The neighborhood is certainly warmer than Sebastopol Hills, but not quite as warm as Middle Reach.
That’s right, I’ve been on the hunt for the best gourmet burgers that Napa Valley has to offer and I’ve compiled a fantastic list. Is it just me or does Saint Helena have the lock-down on burgers? I know there’s more than just these five, but surely this is a good start for all you burger lovers out there!
I’m always curious how chefs get their start. Did they always dream of becoming a chef? Truth is, when I ask this question, I almost always get the same response from chefs: no, but they grew up with a parent or grandparent who spent a lot of time in the kitchen. And not coincidentally, many come from families who have a history of chefs throughout their lineage.
During a rainy autumn week in Napa Valley, a blue, sun-filled sky opened up for a visit to the new Stewart Cellars “home” in downtown Yountville. Having officially opened in August 2016, the Stewart family has begun to welcome guests with open arms into their new home and locals are already buzzing about the exquisitely designed Nomad Heritage Library, elegant Tasting Hall and local-friendly Gather Café.
Being a self-confessed, wood-fired pizza lover—and having recently been inspired by Lisa Perrotti-Brown’s “Five Best Pizza Places in Napa”—I felt compelled to represent Sonoma County. Now, this list isn’t necessarily comprised of pizza parlors, but rather it is a list of pizzerias, wineries, bistros and restaurants that serve some of the best pizza in all of Sonoma County.
When a new restaurant opens in town, you can be sure I am ready to make a visit. The downtown Santa Rosa restaurant scene has steadily been on the rise with recent additions to its already very eclectic and pleasing array of culinary options.
Of course, the Russian River Valley (RRV) is a cool winegrowing climate, but the Sebastopol Hills neighborhood is cooler than most of the appellation’s neighborhoods. Located on the south/southwest side of Sebastopol, this area is influenced heavily by the winds and fog that blow from the Pacific Ocean up through the area known as the Petaluma Gap.
